Believe it or not, half of Brits (46%) skip lunch more than once a week.
A third (30%) reported that they also often skip lunch because they struggle to find time to prepare a healthy lunch option at home.
Modern lifestyles are affecting the nation’s eating habits, with new research revealing millions of Brits skip lunch each week as they’re ‘too busy’ to find the time to eat.
The research, conducted by healthy lunch pot brand PrepCo also reveals that #mealprep – a huge food trend at the start of the year, with over eight million Instagram posts – is in decline, with social media mentions dropping by a third (28%). Showing that the tide is starting to turn, the report also uncovered that 1 in 5 (17%) Brits are now bored of the meal prep trend.
PrepCo has released the findings on British lunch habits as part of a mission to re-educate the nation of the health benefits of dehydrated food – one of the oldest methods of food preservation – which sees water and moisture removed from a food while the amounts of fibre and minerals remain similar to those found in fresh.
Sophie Medlin, lecturer in nutrition and dietetics at King’s College in London, says: “It’s a worry to see that so many people skip lunch on a regular basis. Not only does this mean that we might be missing out on essential nutrients, but as blood sugar levels drop our mental performance also suffers.
“It may be that people don’t want to, or can’t afford to, eat less healthy on-the-go options and can’t find the time to prepare their own meals every day. While the #mealprep trend is a great way to organise your meals for the week ahead, it remains a time consuming and unsustainable habit for most people.”
Sophie, who previously worked as a dietitian with the NHS, says alternative quick and healthy meal options using dehydrated vegetables – like PrepCo – are available.
“Instant food options have a bad reputation, but new advances mean we can now access healthy lunches that are ready in a matter of minutes Having an option available that contains nutritional dehydrated vegetables and can be conveniently kept in a desk drawer, can be a great way to avoid skipping lunch.”
Launched in April 2018, PrepCo is a line of healthy lunch pots that contains natural ingredients and enough dehydrated vegetables to tick off one of your five-a-day, making it ideal for time poor Brits in need of a healthy lunch solution.
Lena Portchmouth, PrepCo founder, says: “As busy working Brits continue to struggle to find the time to eat, PrepCo provides a convenient one pot solution with an ‘al desko’ lunch that is not only quick, but healthy.
“PrepCo is made using a combination of air- and freeze-dried vegetables, ensuring each pot contains more nutrients – and lower levels of fat, salt and sugar – than popular high-street meal salads and sandwiches.”
The PrepCo range of healthy lunch pots are available from major retailers for a RRP of £1.99. For more information on PrepCo please visit: http://www.prepcofoods.co.uk

So, Lena got a bunch of hangry colleagues together to cook up a healthy, tasty and convenient solution to our rushed lunches.
